We arrived at Camping Village Jolly right outside Venice and I was pleased by how clean the facility was, despite the fact it appeared to cater to the backpacking crowd. I must say, well to do backpacking crowd, because I certainly never stayed at a place this nice back in the 90's. We stayed in a bungalow, but we would probably refer to it as a trailer. We had tight quarters with two twin beds and an awkwardly lofted bed that the kids made me sleep on. Watching me get in and out of that thing must have been quite the unfortunate sight. The next day, we headed into the city for what I was told would be a two hour tour, but it turned out to be four hours. The kids handled it well , but in the photos, one can notice the obvious decrease in moods as the day wore on. I loved the guide and tour because she was very informative about history! We were able to see most of the most important sights, but didn't go in any churches or museums. Someday I'd like to spend three or four leisurely days here. Both this visit and my previous one in 1997 were extremely rushed. Kids' thoughts on the city were that it was pretty and fun with lots of shops, but way too many people, too much walking, and the tour was WAY too long. Traveling with the kids has been exhausting, but they are hilarious when describing people and places. They remind me of Karl in An Idiot Abroad, so I guess that would make me Ricky Gervais laughing hysterically at the (often true) things they say. In Venice they noticed (accurately) that only the fat old men are wearing speedos.
